Hi,
I have an HSMP Visa, is it possible for you to help get a job before I arrive to
UK. So that I can start paying the or rented accomodation from the month
I get the job rather than arrive there and start paying rent before getting the job ?

regards,

Hi Madhavi,
Your website has been very helpful.

I just obtained by Tier1 visa and i am planning to move to the uk by February 2009.
I am a skilled certified project manager, pmp, with over 12 years working experience in the construction industry and seek employment as such.

Do you have any additional advise on how i can get a job once i relocate.

Is it possible for me to apply for jobs while still in my home country and be successfully invited for interviews? Will having a uk phone number and address on my CV be an advantage? i have not had any favourable response to my CV’s sent to date.

Do i stand a better chance of being invited for interviews if i am already residing in the uk?

Help! Please advise.

Hi Madhvi
Congratulations on getting your visa and I wish for a bright future ahead.

Well according to my experience it is difficult to get interview calls while you are in India. I am not saying that it is impossible but it happens rarely, I have never heard of that.

Actually when you apply for a job, usually it goes to recruitment agents and then they contact you if they think that your cv is good enough. But if you are not in UK they might not contact you.

Well if you use UK address and contact number then you will get responce, but question will be who will be receiving call if they ring on your UK phone unless you setup a call forwarding on your UK number to ring u on your India mobile.

December to mid january will be very quite, and there will be very less chances that you will receive any interview call during this time.

Answer to your last question is YES. If you are in UK there are better chances that u get interview and job.

But my advice is to check reed.co.uk, totaljobs.com, gumtree.com to see if there are lot of Job openings in your field or not.

Wish you a good luck
Hiren

hi,
Its been couple of days since I have landed in London on Tier1 HSMP visa. As far as i understand, NI # is mandatory for which one should have a bank account. But in my case, I am unable to open a bank account since they need either employment letter or student letter from the institute. Since I do not have any employment letter (still looking out for a job), can somebody please suggest how to go about it.
Well, Bank of Scotland lets you open an account with ID Proof (which i can provide) & also address proof. Address proof is sumthing i am not able to get. The place i am staying in, is for a month & the landlord says, getting a contract in my name for the address, for which I need to commit for 6 months contract. But I am afraid to do so. What if I have to move elsewhere wheenever/if ever i get a job.
Can somebody please help ?

Thanks & Regards,
Sushanth

Hi Sushanth
To apply for NI you donot need Bank Account. Please check this http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/dwp/2006/nica5jp-jan06.pdf
According to DWP they only need to check your Identity and your Passport will be sufficient to prove your Identity. Any additional documents will help you.

For address proof why dont you apply for Provisional Licence and that is very quick to get. This can be used as ID and address proof both.

in this concern I would like to add that one can use there countries driving license / original bank statement as a address proof and even original letter of NI (Number allocation) can be used as a address proof for bank account

Hi Buddies,

Me and my husband have got UK Tier 1 visa recently. We want to get a job when we are in Home country and then travel to UK. I heard that we can buy UK phone number from skype and get calls in our Indian mobile and put the Uk number in the resume to show as if we are in UK. If we assume that the UK consultants and UK recruiters call us on that UK number and we attend it from India, will the whole process be over via telephone itself until we get offer? Wont they want us to come in person before issuing offer? Also in case we get the offer, can we buy a months time or so to join the company so that we can travel from here and come to Uk and join the company after a month? Much appreciate your response. Thanks in Advance!… If anyone has got a job by this way request you to share your experience and tips in my id : geeleo4u@gmail.com

Hi geetha,
You might try this option and you could be successful getting calls from agencies. But usually after initial conversation over the phone agencies/recruiters will like to meet you. And once they are confident about you only then they recommend you to their client (companies). And after this recruiter will call you for the interview.
Companies pay big money to recruitment agencies to find a good candidate for them, therefore recruitment agents try to recommend only best applicants.
If you are trying to find skilled jobs then interviews has to happen, you cannot escape it.
Agencies and recruiter will ask you about when can you join, and it is not a big issue if you join after 1 month, unless they need some one on urgent bases.

Hope this might help.
