Well now you are in UK and need to find a job. First obvious thing that every HSMP do, to find a job and good jobs starts with good CV. Your resume is your sales pitch. I think finding a job in
Anyways, so about CV, its your sales catalogue so make it very clean, precise & to the point. So before you send your CV make sure that its in the right format and presentable. You can find Good CV & Bad CV examples and how to write a CV here.
When I arrived London and start applying jobs I got no reply from any one for 2 months. Then I thought there must be something wrong with my job applications. I then started looking for finding information on internet about CV writing & Interviewing. I found many websites of universities, colleges & recruitment agencies where they provide information about CV writing, covering letter and appearing for Interview. That was really helpful and when I recreated my cv and start applying I received reply for each application and there was a time when I had number of job offers and I had to decide which one to choose “that was wonderful experience” .
According to me a good CV should have following blocks of information:
- Limit your CV to 2 pages or maximum 3
- Header (on all pages, your name & contact details)
- Start with experience summary
- Skill summary (split in to expert, moderate & beginner level and put everything that you know at different levels )
- Experience
- Include company details
- Your Responsibilities
- Example of work (if possible)
- What you learnt (show learning capability this impress employers
- Education
- Additional Information (Languages, Visa status & type, personal details)
- Hobbies (dont put that you cannt talk about)
- References(provide references of your previous employer, name, company, designation & contact details)
You also need to modify CV according to the job you are applying, try to move your skills up or down and change level of knowledge, experience etc. Its your sales pitch so say what your employer will like to hear. Before you apply for a job or go for interview try to get more information about your employer, company and your role in company. So that you can impress them in your interview.
Hope this would be helpful for you. I will also write about how to write covering letter. If you want I can send you my CV so you can use it as reference for your cv.
