Hi,

I got my HSMP last week. Can you please tell me how to search for jobs in UK now.
I am in the IT field. When is the best time to come there.

Should we attend interviews from India itself and come there.

Within how many days we have to come to UK for this HSMP.

Is there any limit .
Thanks

Hi bsac

Congratulations for your HSMP :)

I have already mentioned on this page http://hsmpvolunteers.co.uk/index.php/2008/11/09/hsmp-jobs-uk/
That how you can find jobs in UK, try it.

Well you will not be able to attend any interview from India, If you come to UK and then try to find jobs, that will be much better.

Well you must enter UK within 90 days after obtaining the visa. I do recommend to check Home Office website to get latest information on this matter.

Cheers!!

Hi Hiren

you are doing a good help to HSMP holders, its admirable .
I want one help from you
After rejection of my visa application, I did a appeal, with which I submitted my original bank statement and Pay slips, they granted my appeal but after that I didn’t got my document back
And I didn’t get my HSMP original letter back after visa application, will it be require any where in future.?
I got visa and planning to migrate UK in 15 Days…What should I do for this documents..?

Hi Winit

Well you probably will not need your original bank statement and payslips. But it will be good to get this back from home office. You can ring them and ask from home office about your query and they will be in best position to give you the best advice.

Home office is there to help so any one should not reluctant to contact them for any genuine query.

Good Luck.

Hi winit

Well you donot need it usually. But may be you need it when you first arrive in UK. Immegration clearance office may ask you to present it to them.

Therefore contact home office asap and make this clear. Also ask them if they sent it back in the post, but if it is lost in between, what will happen?
So ask them, every thing, and they record all phont calls, that can be used as an evidence later. But that is too rare :)

Good luck

Hi Sairam

I will suggest you to wait for few months and keep eye on whats going on in UK. Alternatively look for the available jobs and if there are plenty of jobs in your field in UK then you should apply for HSMP.

As far as I know IT has less impact of recession.

Hi Sri Krishna

I just replied comment from SriRam, and now replying to Sri Krishna. Hope its god’s grace that lot of people with god’s name coming here. hehehe :)

Congratulations for your HSMP visa.
Well getting job depends totally upon yourself. Of course it depends on available jobs too. So first look for job availability, then see what companies are looking for and then see if you are competitive enough? On the bases of job availability and job specs change your cv etc. If required to do any small course or training to improve your skills do that before you come.

Anyway Its good time to come now in January 2009.

It is you who can see what is the job market for your field in the UK. Go through lot of jobs sites, see how often they post jobs in your choosen category / field, how many jobs available etc. Also keep visiting UK news sites to see whats going on in UK job market and economy.

But as you have good experience, I feel if you are competitive enough you can find job in UK.

Hi Hiren,

Thanks for your earlier reply.

I was watching the Business Anslyst jobs since last 1 month in reed.co.uk and Totaljobs.com I find that there are at least 30 jobs posted a week. I can see the demand there and the supply is also not bad, I mean in reed I could see that minimum 20 people applying for job. Is it a good sign?

I was trying to apply from India and obviously I could not get a single call. I have a couple of questions here , as ususal

1) How soon it is better to come to UK after obtaining HSMP.

2) Is it possible to get a job offer before coming there? ( My company said they have no openings in UK)

3) If i come there with out a job offer what will be my monthly expenses ( if I stay with a friend, assuming accomidation is taken care)

Thank You

Hi Hiren,

First of all, let me take few lines to thank you for the information you are providing, it is of great help when we are lost n confused. Our appreciations for you.

About me: I am a SAP consultant working in Switzerland from past 4 years, I have a job but I am willing to apply for HSMP in month of Jan 09, and want to re locate sometime this year. ( If I get a Visa I will enter UK just for stamping within 90 days ). But my two concerns as everyone are,
1. Is this the time to apply and to get the HSMP, are there major rejections in the Visa grant?

2. Can I work in other country as long as I want even with the HSMP visa, without hampering my PR application in future.

I would be happy to see your suggestions on the same keeping in mind that my HSMP application is infact very necessary immediately?

But looking atdaily deepening job market in UK I have rethink my plans.

I am presently working with HCL Technologies, India for Detusche Bank in Production Support and has prior experience in development projects. My skill set includes Oracle, PLSQL, Java and VB. I have total experience of 5.3 years.

Could you please advise me if I am coming to UK after 6 months of VISA issuing date what are the requirements (as you mentioned you need to enter withing 90 days)

Will my VISA be cancelled if I donot enter within 90 days ?
If not, what are the additional requirements I need to meet if I am travelling after 90 days ?
Is it possible to get a job from India itself and then come to UK? (which looks to be the best sratergy in current situation if possible)

Thanks

My name is Rafay Bahelmi and am currently in the US. I have been here for over 8 years and have been working since the past 4 on a H1B visa. I was recently laid off work and am currently out of legal status. Because of slagging economy, and my petition expiring I am unable to find any jobs here.

I was fortunate to get HSMP visa and during my research I came across your site (Thanks for the honest, straight forward and very helpful information.) Because you are very kind I would like to get your advice on my situation. I am eager to come to UK and find a job. I have been doing research and there are jobs I like. I use monster and jobsite. I am aware that economy is slow in the UK as well but I think I will be better of in the UK. Your advice will be of great help to me.

Sorry for the abrupt introduction, and thanks for willing to help. I would appreciate if you can reply.

Hi Rafay

Congratulations for getting HSMP visa. If you can find relevant jobs in UK and u feel confident to find that, then please come here. My thinking about recession and economy slow down is different then others.

I think companies are using economy slow down to fine tune their economy and getting rid of people they donot want. Companies will be looking to hire more efficient and cost effective people now. If you fit in this scenario where you can prove to companies that you are skilled, competitive, cost efficient and willing to work then there are opportunities.

I think recession has brought lot of opportunities to my doors, and so do I think that there are opportunities for every one.

Please try to look at http://www.reed.co.uk and http://www.gumtree.com. Specially gumtree jobs will be very useful. My experience is that on gumtree the decision makers directly post jobs, but on other sites there are mostly jobs posted by agencies and they make process of getting job bit longer. Try http://www.gumtree.com

Have a bright future ahead. Good Luck

We both work for Oracle presently and I plan to join him once he finds himself a job in UK.
The two queries that I have are:
1. I will be allowed to work in UK, as dependents can work in UK?
2. How do I get the dependent VISA stamped. Shall I wait for him to reach UK and find a job and then I apply for the VISA? Where can I find the details for the dependent VISA application.

Any help in the above regard is much appreciated.

First of all best wishes for your application.
Regarding jobs you must keep searching for appropriate jobs in UK from websites I have recommended or any other websites you know. Keep your eye on UK news so you can be aware of whats happening in UK regarding employement.
The job market is getting worse according to news that I read every day and there are no sign of relief sooner. But recession has hit more unskilled workers I think. All my friends who are skilled and have good experience they are still in jobs or are able to find new jobs.
But again it depends on how competant you are and how much experience and confidence you have.
I will say just keep your eyes open and make your self more aware of the current situation and news. And make the decision accordingly.

Good Luck.

Regarding finding job, you must be competitive enough and should have good presentation, communication and interview skills. But recession is there so please do your research before you make any decision.

Minimum expenses varies but if you live as paying guest in an Indian family then monthly cost rent will be approx: £300.00
Travel: £100
Phone: £20-50
Leisure: £100

Note: Please donot consider these costs as fixed costs these are suggested according to my personal experience, no one should take it as personal advice.

I got to know from my friends every month one need 40-50k to survive in UK.

So i planned to find jobs in india with UK onsite opportunity and simultaneously apply for jobs in UK through websites. I applied for jobs every day for all the jobs posted. By I did not get a single call, since my CV will have address of Bangalore. The employers wont entertain any candidate not in UK. I also tried to find any consultancy in india which can find placements for me. I did not find any.

As I see the market conditions and response from my friends the market is picking up now.

Please if any one of you know any placement consultancy either in india or UK, please let me know. You can send the details at prakhyat.mm@gmail.com.

I know the job sites to apply and got more information after reading the reply chains.

All you need to do is get the medical reports CHEST - X ray and T B Test ( one week before travel). My suggestion is wait till next year. Your renewal is concerned with about last 12 months salary before your renewal i.e you income from Sep 2011 to Sep 2012.

I am planning to visit UK next month in search of job. I am a CCVP certified Engineer with 7+yrs of experience in Cisco VoIP testing and having HSMP Work permit which i got in Feb 2009.

When searching in websites like reed, theitjobboard, cwjobs, I could see lot of openings for CCVP certified. but didnot get any calls as i am in india. for this reason, to try it out, i am coming next month. What are the things that I need to take care before i land in london considering the following.
1. Dress code during interview: Is Tie or Suit mandatory?
2. Seems climate is very cool now. Is Jacket and Sweater enuf?
3. Is laptop mandatory? Will it be checked in airport to switch on and check for OS and softwares?
4. Are there any SIM card(UK) which has International Roaming facility so that if I come back to India, I can use the same for getting calls.
5. Are consultants open on sat and sun?
Any other things mandatory, pls. share. Thanks in Advance.

Hi Gans

Following suggestions are based on my personal experience and please consider what suites you and ignore which you think that might not work for you.
1. Well tie suit is not mandatory, but if you wear tie suit, it will help you to build your professional image.
2. Buy few warmers, which will keep you warm. Get few extra tshirts, so if you feel more cold you have have more layers of tshirts, which will protect you from cold weather. Sweaters and Jackets are good, bring it also. Jacket, or long coats are always good which will help you protecting from chilled wind.
3. Laptop is not mandatory, but it will depend on your personal usage, if you can live without it, thats great :) No one check your laptop and I have never heard about it.
4. Usually all the sims in UK provide roaming facility. But it could be very expensive. The one that I use costs me £1 per minute to receive calls in India.
5. Usually consultants are not open on sat, sun.
