HSMP is now Tier 1 as we all know. There are still jobs for HSMP / Tier 1 holder in UK. But be careful before you arrive in UK in this credit crunch situation.
If you have applied for HSMP or already have cleared your EC I strongly advice you not to Enter UK in November or December 2008. There are mainly 2 reasons.
1st is December, when job market is usually slow in the UK, most of the companies avoid hiring during december. Therefore even if you are experienced or highly skilled your chances are less to find suitable job. More days you spend in UK without job, more pressure build on you.
2nd reason is Credit Crunch. As UK is in recession therefore there is another reason to wait for few months before you come to UK. In this time of global financial crisis where lot of companies are firing, I believe small businesses will still be hiring but they will be very particulat about hiring and will avoid hiring if it is not very very necessary.
So what is the best time to land in UK.
For you guys who have got the HSMP or applying for it, I advice you to come in January 2009 or after that. By the end of January UK business are back to normal from christmas holidays and businesses start taking pace. In next few months hope the effect of financial crisis will be reduced and you will have better chances for finding jobs.
I strongly advice you to do your home work before you land in London/UK. Following are few tips to find jobs quickly:
- Search for jobs that you will like to do on gumtree.com, reed.co.uk, totaljobs.co.uk & jobserve.com and try to find what companies are looking for their ideal employee, what responsibilities you will take if you join, what skills they need. And analyze yourself and score your self. Try to put yourself in to the shoes of employer and see will you hire your self?
- Try to build multiple CVs to suit different kind of jobs and job requirements.
- Create covering letters try to show it to your friends who are in business and often hire people.
- Search for interview tips, uk culture etc. Improve your spoken english skills and build confidence in yourself.
- Try to use google maps, tfl.gov.uk, london underground map etc. Try to udnerstand how london transport works. It will help you to travel and avoid delays on interview day.
- Get use to see weather daily, this will help you plan your clothing.
- Read news at news.bbc.co.uk
- Collect as much information as possible before you come to London.
Any way for you guys who are coming in UK on HSMP visa, I wish you all good luck for job search and bright future ahead.
